The Resurrection of Jesus – Easter Bible Lesson for Kids
Theme: Victory & New Life
Big Truth: Jesus defeated death and gives us new life.
Key Verse: “He is not here; he has risen!” — Luke 24:6
Bible Story: Luke 24; John 20
Pillar Focus: Power (Jesus’ victory changes everything)
1. Introduction
Have you ever watched a movie where everything looked lost? The hero was gone… hope seemed finished… and everyone thought the story was over? That is exactly how Jesus’ friends felt. Jesus had died on the cross. They had watched Him buried in a tomb. The stone was rolled in front. The guards stood outside. It looked like the end. But God had the greatest surprise in history waiting for them. Three days later… something amazing happened. The stone was rolled away. The tomb was empty. Jesus was alive! Easter reminds us of the greatest truth in the world:
Because Jesus rose from the dead…
• Sin is defeated
• Death is defeated
• And we can have new life with Him forever
Today we are going to discover why the resurrection changes everything.
2. Game — Empty Tomb Hunt (Memory Verse)
Supplies:
• Plastic eggs or stones
• Paper with the memory verse words written on them
• 4–7 team colors
Memory Verse: “He is not here; he has risen!” — Luke 24:6
Instructions
Hide the eggs around the room.
Divide the kids into teams.
Each egg contains one word from the memory verse.
Teams must find the eggs and put the verse in the correct order.
The first team to:
• arrange the verse correctly
• and say it together from memory
wins!
Leader Tip: Remind the kids that Just like the disciples discovered the empty tomb, they discovered the greatest truth — Jesus is alive!
3. Praise & Worship
Leader: Today is a celebration day! Jesus is alive! Let's praise Him with joy! Encourage kids to:
• clap
• jump
• shout
• celebrate Jesus!

4. Object Lesson — The Empty Egg
Supplies
• One Easter egg
• Small rock
• Piece of cloth
Demonstration:
Hold up the egg.
Leader: What do you think is inside this egg?
Let kids guess.
Open it.
Inside is:
• a small rock
• a cloth
Explain: The rock reminds us of the stone that covered Jesus’ tomb. The cloth reminds us of the linen cloth left behind.
Now show the empty egg.
Leader: The most important thing about the tomb was not what was inside. It was what was NOT inside. Jesus was not there. The tomb was empty because Jesus is alive! That is why Easter is the greatest celebration in the world.
5. Bible Story — Jesus Is Alive! (Interactive Sermon)
Prepare these before the lesson:
• Small box (tomb)
• Round paper plate or cardboard circle (stone)
• Linen cloth or white cloth
• Flashlight (angel glow)
• Scarf (Mary)
Place the cloth inside the box and cover it with the stone.
INTRO: (Hold the box.)
Leader: I brought something special today. Some boxes hold toys. Some boxes hold surprises. But this box reminds us of the greatest surprise in history. This box represents the tomb of Jesus. And inside this tomb… something incredible happened. But first we need to go back to the beginning of the story.
The Women Go to the Tomb: (Luke 24:1–3)
Early on Sunday morning, while the sun was just beginning to rise, some women walked quietly toward the tomb. They loved Jesus. But they were very sad.
Everyone whisper with me:
“Sad.”
Kids whisper: Sad
They had seen Jesus die on the cross. They had watched Him be buried. And now they were bringing spices to the tomb. But on the way they asked each other something.
Leader: Who remembers what was covering the tomb?
Kids: THE STONE!
Yes!
(Hold up the stone.)
The stone was huge.
The women wondered: “Who will roll the stone away?”
Everyone pretend to push a giant rock. But when they arrived… Something was very strange. The stone… (Slowly roll it away) …was already moved.
Everyone say: “The stone is gone!”
The Empty Tomb
The women stepped closer. They looked inside the tomb. (Open the box.)
And what do you think they saw? Nothing. Jesus was not there. (Hold up the linen cloth.)
Only the cloth that had wrapped Him was left behind.
Everyone say:
“The tomb is empty!”
But suddenly something amazing happened!
The Angels Appear: (Luke 24:4–7)
Two angels appeared in shining clothes!
(Turn on flashlight.)
The light was so bright the women were afraid. But the angels said something incredible: “Why do you look for the living among the dead?
He is not here… HE HAS RISEN!”
Everyone shout: “HE HAS RISEN!”
The angels reminded them: Remember what Jesus told you?
He said He would die… but on the third day… He would rise again! The women suddenly understood. They ran to tell the disciples.
Mary Meets Jesus: (John 20:11–18)
But one woman stayed behind. Her name was Mary.
(Drape scarf.)
She stood outside the tomb crying. She thought someone had taken Jesus’ body. Then she saw a man standing nearby. She thought he was the gardener.
But then the man said one word: “Mary.” She recognized the voice immediately.
It was Jesus! Alive!
Everyone shout:
“Jesus is alive!”
Mary ran to tell everyone.
Jesus Appears to the Disciples: (John 20:19–23)
Later that evening the disciples were hiding behind locked doors.
They were afraid.
(Have kids hug themselves and look scared.)
Suddenly Jesus appeared in the room and said: “Peace be with you.”
He showed them His hands. And His side. The disciples realized it was truly Jesus. Alive!
Their fear turned into joy.
Thomas Believes: (John 20:24–29)
One disciple named Thomas was not there. He said: “Unless I see Him, I will not believe.”A week later Jesus appeared again.
He said: “Put your finger here. Look at my hands.” Thomas believed and said: “My Lord and my God!”
Then Jesus said: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.”
That includes us today!
Gospel Declaration
Because Jesus died and rose again:
• Sin is forgiven

Big Truth

Jesus is alive!
Kids: Forever!
6. Holy Spirit Activation
Leader: Jesus is alive today. And He still speaks to His people.
Step 1: Ask kids to close their eyes.
Say: Imagine standing outside the empty tomb. The stone is rolled away. You hear the angel say:
“He is not here. He has risen!”
Step 2: Ask them: Jesus, what do You want to tell me today?
